Do you want a simple paint tool for your smartphone? Paint Pad is a basic art tool that will remind you of the early PC paint programs, with basic drawing functions, and the ability to draw over imported images.

Paint Pad’s toolbox features pencil, eraser, spray can and zoom, plus shape and line tools. You can alter the thickness of lines, choose color from a basic palette. Images can be imported in JPG format, or you can take a photo with your phone, from within the program.

Paint Pad also allows you to send your creations via bluetooth and set them as your wallpaper. The interface feels completely natural – it has clear icons that are easy to understand, and drawing with your finger is really simple. It’s a really basic program, though, and while it’s fun it has no advanced graphics features, or the subtlety of modern painting applications.

Paint Pad is a bright, simple and fun paint tool. It’s a relaxing time waster, and you can create some cheerful images – just don’t expect to turn into Leonardo da Vinci.

Assassins Creed Altaïr’s Chronicles brings one of 2008s biggest console games to the iPhone. Battle your way through Jerusalem in 1191 AD.

You are Altaïr, the master assassin, who has been sent on a mission in pursuit of ‘the chalice’, a powerful mystical object that can bring the Crusades to an end. What this means in gaming is lots of running, jumping and killing!

Without a doubt, Assassins Creed Altaïr’s Chronicles is one of the best looking iPhone games you’ll see. The graphics look fantastic, and move really smoothly. The platform, slash and hack gameplay is pseudo 3D – it plays like a 2D game, but is rendered in a lovely 3D environment.

Control is pretty simple, with an onscreen touch pad for movement that works quite well. Combat looks good, but is really just a case of hitting the attack button repeatedly. Nevertheless, it’s all good arcade action and perfect handheld gaming. This free version suffers only from being too short. It’s no challenge to play through in one sitting, although it is fun. The full version features 28 levels over 5 historical settings, and based on this demo it looks like an enticing prospect for any iPhone user.

Slick controls and gamplay, with gorgeous graphics, and it’s free. What are you waiting for?

Xchanger requires an Internet connection to update its rates, and there is a disclaimer when you install that the rates can’t be relied upon to be 100% market exact. However, all the results we got were just as good as using Google!

It’s a simple application to use, with a nice graphical interface. There is maybe one too many screens when you make a conversion – Xchanger asks for too much conformation from the user in general
